This one hour volume is the second one filmed by Bill Cross on 16mm Cine Film during the early 1960s.
Section 1:- Shropshire & Welsh Border Branch Lines (39-mins). This section features many long closed branch lines starting with a journey from Wellington to Much Wenlock behind a 61xx Prairie tank. Arrivals and departures on the Severn Valley line are witnessed at Berrington, Cressage, Ironbridge and Bridgnorth, with ex-LMS tank locomotives.
The Llanfyllin Branch from Llanymynech on the Cambrian is covered followed by an idyllic rural scene at Crudgington Station in 1962 on the Wellington-Crewe Line. The Cambrian Branch from Ellesmere to Wrexham features an auto-train with ex-GWR 14xx power.
A rare shot filmed in 1929 on the Bishops Castle railway precludes a look at the Shrewsbury-Stafford line at Newport. Colonel Stephens Shropshire & Montgomery Railway was always a favourite with enthusiasts and Bill Cross covered the SLS last day railtour to Llanymynech with WD 0-6-0ST No.193 in 1960. The Clee Hill Quarry branch from Ludlow is visited on its last day of operation and 46446 hauled freight on the Hanwood-Minsterley branch is a real gem.
An early DMU visits Park Hall Halt on the Oswestry-Gobowen branch and finally a goods train passes through the streets of Welshpool on the N.G. Welshpool-Llanfair Railway.
Section 2:- Cambrian Requiem (17-mins). This short section utilises the offcuts not used in Volume 19 Steam on the Cambrian. Scenes at Aberystwyth, Borth, Dovey Jct., and Oswestry lead to Gobowen and Shrewsbury.
Section 3:- Return of Steam (4-mins). 1972 saw the return of steam specials to Shropshire. No.6000 King George V arrives and turns at Shrewsbury Station and 5596 Bahamas arrives at Hookgate Depot for servicing in her new red livery.
All sections are in colour except for Bishops
