This is a rare chance to travel with the driver of First GBRF 66714 onboard 6H93 as it travels from Tyne Dock to Drax along a contrasting route featuring freight only lines, during typical Autumn 2008 weather.

The interesting journey that is filmed in real time without commentary but with the benefit of captions starts at Tyne Dock to Gateshead then south on the ECML to Ferryhill.

Here we take the freight only line to Norton South Junction and then through Stockton and Eaglescliffe before re-joining the ECML at Northallerton.

Then down the ECML through York to Colton Junction, then branching to Milford sidings and Knottingley before finally passing under the ECML and on to Drax Power Station.

Aboard a superb Virgin Pendolino tilting train as it powers north from Euston at speeds of up to 125 miles per hour on the recently upgraded West Coast main line to Preston, stopping only at Warrington and Wigan.

Filmed in July 2009 this cab ride does not have any distracting commentary but does have all the main points of interest captioned. It journeys along the new Trent Valley 4 track sections and includes a short section of restricted running in the North West due to the theft of signalling cable.

Somewhat overshadowed by the more direct WCML route from Lancaster to Carlisle the scenic coastal line via Barrow and Whitehaven is a real treat.

After crossing the head of Morecambe bay on Arnside viaduct the line clings mostly to the Cumbrian coast through many areas of outstanding natural beauty.

We join the driver at Swansea on board a new ‘Intercity Express Trains’ 802 class with the 14.29 Swansea to London Paddington Great Western Railway service, in June 2019.

The journey takes us from Swansea, past the steel works at Port Talbot and through Bridgend before arriving at the Capital of Wales Cardiff.
