Diesel & Electric Archive Files

Diesel & Electric Archive Files

Ref: TV718D

Price:£12.95

Quantity:

A very interesting volume featuring a collection of rare footage from the '50s & '60s and including one-off prototypes 'Falcon', DP2 & the gas turbine 4-6-0 GT3.

The late 1950s & early 1960s saw the largest influx of new designs as the British Railways Board hurried to rid themselves of steam traction. During this period a huge number of locomotives were built, some just one-off prototypes, others part of large classes.

Thankfully some far sighted individuals filmed the new diesels as well as the even newer electrics. Their efforts are showcased here and include some major rarities, including GT3 working through Neasden, DP2 on the East Coast main Line, Falcon on the ECML, 10000 and 10201 at Derby, D4 at Tring, a Class 24 in Kent, a Class 27 at Bletchley, Railbuses and a Class 15 on the Maldon Branch, a "Crompton" at York, Class 40s on the WCML, DMUs at Ballater and Bacup, Sheffield Victoria and Peaks in the Peak District.

Plus Deltics on the ECML, Westerns, Warships and Hymeks on the WR, Class 40s on Shap, Redmire Branch, D2383 on High Peak, Class 17s Claydons on freight, Pullman Multiple Units, Type 2s in Scotland and Southern EMUs.

We also take a look at the wonderful London Transport electric locomotives and even see rare footage of the National Coal Board's Tyneside electrics,

Quite simply The Diesel & Electric Archive Files is an essential addition to your collection.

Diesel Shunters

Diesel Shunters

Ref: TV0005D

Price:£16.99

Quantity:

Diesel shunters were the unsung heroes of the traction fleet. Several classes, some large, some very small, toiled away in yards throughout the network. Some types were built in large numbers, like the 350 horsepower 08s. Others were grouped into smaller classes, like the 06s, which had short working lives. Others performed a wider variety of roles, working trip freight as well as heavier shunting duties. In this programme we explore this fleet in action, using a collection of archive film and contemporary footage.

In this volume we include:

  • A history of the diesel shunter fleet starting in the 1930s.
  • Class 02 - an 0-4-0 design introduced in 1960.
  • Class 03 - an 0-6-0 diesel mechanical design, following the introduction of the class, with film from their early years around the network including East Anglia, the Cromford & High Peak and the Weymouth Tramway plus examples in preservation and in Industrial service.
  • Class 04 - an 0-6-0 diesel mechanical design with film from the 1960s and examples in preservation.
  • Class 06 - a diminutive 0-4-0 class of 16 with archive film from the 1960s.
  • Class 07 - A Southern Region based class used for shunting & trip freight.
  • Class 08 - the most numerous class of British diesel locomotive. The design is explored using archive film from the 1950s to the present day. The early locos produced in 1952 are featured along with the later examples introduced in the 1960s.
  • Class 09 - the 1960s built locos plus the conversions from 08s in the early 1990s.
  • Class 14 - the short lived ‘Teddy Bears’ built at Swindon in BR service and in the preservation era.
  • Class 17 - the Clayton Type 1s produced mostly for short distance freight.

First Generation Traction (60-mins)

Price:£12.95

A range of veteran motive power from the 1950s and 60s at work throughout the network.

During the 1950s and 1960s, British Railways introduced a wide range of diesel and electric traction which would, by 1968, completely displace steam from the network. Amazingly, in the 21st Centruy, some of those first generation classes are still hard at work.

In this programme, filmed mostly in 2002, we explore these classes in action on a wide range of duties.

The programme comprises:

Class 37s on both passenger and freight, including double heading on stone trains on the steep Devon bank to Whiteball.

DRS Class 20s and Fragonset Class 47s.

The Class 101 Metro Cammel Units.

Virgin and First North Western Class 47s.

'Celebrity' 47s including Virgins two tone green, large logo and XP64 liveries.

DEMUs and EMUs on former Southern metals plus Class 73s.

Class 86s on both passenger and freight.

Freightliner Class 47s and 86s.

Diverted trains over the Settle & Carlisle with a wide range of Class 47 motive power.

Inter-City 125 - The Need for Speed (75-mins)

Ref: TV278D

Price:£12.95

Inter-City 125 was one of British Rail’s greatest success. The travelling public was enthralled by its great looks, the power and the speed. The marketing men had a field day, with phrases like ‘the Journey Shrinker’ and passenger traffic increased on all the routes the 125 was introduced on.

This programme explores the world of the HST throughout the network from the 1970s through to the early 1990s.

It then brings the story up to date with a look at the new liveries and workings in the era of privatisation.
