This tells the story of Jon Marsh's discovery of and fascination with the Festiniog Railway as recorded on ciné and stills over 30 years from 1962 to 1991 when he finished using ciné film.


We see the railway operating in the coal-fired days with Prince and Earl of Merioneth, the locos from Penrhyn, Linda and Blanche, the Alco plus the derelict trackbed at Blaenau Festiniog before re-opening.


Trains to Dduallt and Lyn Ystradau and finally the galas of the late 1980s with visiting locos Russell and Chaloner.

Rare early preservation era archive film of the Ffestiniog Railway taken in the 1960s.


The Alex J. Walker, David Newham and Tom Winter Home Movie Collections

Part 1: (66-mins)is a collection of 16mm films made by Alex J Walker. We start in the winter of 1961/62 with scenes of the whole line. "Linda" is on loan and is seen on a test train. Fairles "Merddyn Emrys" and "Earl of Merioneth" are seen in action as well as "Prince".


Next a visit in the winter of 1963 shows track work and the inauguration of the Snapper Bar. The "Centenary of Steam 1963" follows and then in 1965 the Centenary of passenger travel beginning with scenes of the Oakley Quarry.


The Alco is delivered to the line in 1967 and we finish the Walker Archive with a trip from TYB to Ddaullt to work on the Deviation.


Part 2: (20-mins) is 8mm film by David Newham taken in 1961 and by Tom Winter between 1960 and 1967.

The Leighton Buzzard Light Railway was built to carry sand for local quarry owners, Garsides and Arnolds. In 1968 the Iron Horse Railway was formed, this was to become the Leighton Buzzard Narrow Gauge Railway Society, which still runs the line today.


This volume is from cine film that Jon Marsh and others shot between 1968 and 1990 plus some video of highlights to 1998. Not a full history but a 30 year personal record.

Here we cover four days on the Harz system in February 2008. The trip was organised by Ffestiniog Travel.


The first day was a trip from Wernigerode to Quedlinberg using railcar T3, The second day was another trip to Quedlinburg, this time using a Jung Mallet built in 1897 and two Henschel 0-6-0Ts built in 1914. The third day we took a trip to the summit of the Brocken using the 1939 built Krupp 2-6-2T.


In addition we see the regular LKM 2-10-2s in action plus the railcars.
