The Provincial Video Part 2

The Provincial Video Part 2

Ref: IT1058D

Price:£16.99

Welcome to the second Provincial video where we turn back the clock and profile earlier Provincial vehicles.

The first highlight is a journey on board preserved A.E.C. Regal, No.24 (CG 9607) on it’s way to the Showbus 2004 rally. Enjoy the splendour of some excellent driving through scenic country roads following fleetmate – No.35 (BOR 767). The return journey is on board No.35 which is a pre-war A.E.C. Regent 1 that carries it’s original Park Royal body containing period features such as a clock and passenger notices from a bygone era. We then look back at No.35 shortly after restoration on cine film shot some 30 years ago!

We then move onto the Provincial Society’s annual bus rally at Stokes Bay, Gosport. This provides an insight into the activities at one of the south's larger bus rallies. During the rally we sample the ‘road run’ and also take a ride on board preserved Provincial Bristol RE No.12 (ECG 112K) as it runs around it’s old haunts on a trip to Gosport bus station before returning to the rally site.

In an independent transport videos exclusive we take a visit to the Provincial Society’s successful ‘All aboard for Provvie’s Past’ exhibition that was held in Fareham. Here you can see the lesser seen parts of the Company’s past, focusing upon everything from trams to tickets!

Finally we round off with a trip on board Provincial Guy Arab 1 No.55 (EHO 228) around Fareham in connection with the exhibition. At the end of it’s journey we see 55 being parked up in her home depot of Hoeford, capturing her in classic surroundings.

So its ‘All aboard for Provvie’s Past’ – on video! Enjoy the ride!

Reliving Hants & Dorset

Reliving Hants & Dorset

Ref: IT1103D

Price:£17.95

Quantity:

Remember Hants & Dorset? You now have a chance to relive some of your memories of this former Tilling Group company!

We start our journey on board Bristol RELL6G 1652 (XLJ 726K), a 1972 vehicle with ECW DP50F bodywork at Fareham Bus Station. Here we set out to recreate three former Hants & Dorset routes that this type of bus would have operated on. The first is the 53 service to Southampton via the pretty village of Wickham. On arrival at Southampton we change to service 70, a Limited Stop run to Gosport travelling through picturesque Titchfield and Stubbington. There are plenty of atmospheric sounds from the Gardner engine and Wilson semi-automatic gearbox on board. We also have cameras along the route for the scenic drive by shots.

We leave Gosport as service 76 back to Fareham. During the filming we have tried to keep to the original routes and locations where possible, but a number of sites have now been demolished to make way for newer buildings.

With this in mind, the second part of this programme is archive cine film provided by Bob Gray. Bob took his camera out between 1971 and 1982 to capture Hants & Dorset buses in service. You might recognise some of the locations in the Fareham, Southampton and Gosport areas from the RE ride, but a lot has changed. Bob also captured two of the Bus Driver of the Year events that took place at Tidworth in 1975 and 1977. Look out for sister vehicle XLJ 727K taking part! He also took two Bristol VRs to the Southsea Spectacular Rally in 1976 and 1977, all is here for you to enjoy.

The third part of this programme features Bristol FLF6G 1540 (GLJ 748D), a 1966 vehicle with ECW H70F bodywork. Filmed at the Stokes Bay Rally in 2004, we travel on 1540 as it takes us on a journey to Titchfield via Stubbington. Again plenty of sounds and scenes for you to enjoy. We finish off with a montage of views of preserved Hants & Dorset vehicles in action at Winchester, their home ground, looking the part, reliving the past days of Hants & Dorset.

So, if you remember Hants & Dorset, this is the programme for you. If you are too young to remember, take a look and see what you missed!

Western National Bristol VR - The Twilight Days

Western National Bristol VR - The Twilight Days

Ref: IT1055D

Price:£16.99

Quantity:

The Bristol VRT has had a long association with the south west of England. First examples entered service with Western National as long ago as 1969. Now in 2005, some 36 years on the final vehicles are in their ‘Twilight Days’.

In the summer of 2004 our cameras made a visit to Plymouth and Cornwall to record these fine vehicles in everyday service. The programme starts in Plymouth at the Torpoint Ferry and follows the VRs’ running on the ferry between Devonport and Torpoint. Some of these VRs’ have now been replaced by new Dennis Tridents.

We then move south to Penzance and visit the bus station and observe the VRs’ going about their duties, mainly on route 1 and 1A, the scenic route to Lands End. A visit to the picturesque Sennen Cove to see them climbing the steep hill out of the bay is followed by an encounter with the open-top variety running the 300 circular service.

Back at Penzance we board 38908 (VEX 288X) a former Eastern Counties vehicle for the route to Lands End and back. Sit back and enjoy the ride, with stereo sound you feel as though you are on board!

From Penzance we move to Newquay and have a ride on 38871 (LFJ 871W) on route 305 to Tregustick. Then we observe other VRs’ on the 305 passing Porth Beach.

To conclude we have the pleasure in presenting footage from the video camera of Allan Macfarlane. Allan made a visit to Truro exactly 5 years to the day in 1999! Filming many VRs’ in service in the city together with some belonging to the company of Truronian in their distinct red livery.

It is possible that the closed top Bristol VRT will finish running in Cornwall during 2005. This video is a reminder of the twilight days of these excellent vehicles and what will be the end of the ‘Bristol’ bus in the west country. We will be following up this volume with a further one charting the last days of the Bristol VRT.

Wilts & Dorset Bristol VR Part 1 - Twilight

Wilts & Dorset Bristol VR Part 1 - Twilight

Ref: IT1015D

Price:£17.95

Quantity:

The Bristol VRT has been associated with the original and present Wilts & Dorset companies since 1974. Today’s Wilts & Dorset was formed in 1983 from part of Hants & Dorset Motor Services Ltd., and operates a network of services in the Poole, Salisbury, Lymington, Blandford and Ringwood areas. In 1993 Damory Coaches based in Blandford was purchased – of which a number of VRs have been transferred and are painted in to the attractive Damory livery.

The Bristol VRT is having an extended life with Wilts & Dorset – as a large number have been fully refurbished in recent years – featuring new windows, seat fabric and soundproofing.

This video programme records the Wilts & Dorset VRTs in the Twilight of their careers. Firstly we feature a ‘Photo Gallery’ of VRs in service during the early and latter parts of their lives, so livery changes can be observed. We then take out Damory 5070 (GEL686V) on a tour of the beautiful Dorset countryside – from Poole to Wareham, Corfe, Swanage and through the lanes to Blandford. We then change to W&D liveried 4413 (BFX666T) for a run to Sturminster and back. Then rejoin 5070 back to Poole via Wimborne.

Current operations are observed in Salisbury, Poole, Weymouth, Blandford and on the roads of rural Dorset that have been the home to the VR for over 25 years.

This is our second volume featuring the Bristol VRs of Wilts & Dorset. Here we open on 1st January 2002 at the Winchester rally showing two rather special W&D Bristol VRTs, 4334 (JJT446N) the final series 2 vehicle and 4422 (ELJ214V) a series 3 painted in a commemorative blue and white livery to mark the 100th anniversary of Poole Tramways in 2001.

We then spend the final day of series 2 operation on board 4334 a 1974 Bristol VRT/SL2/6LX with ECW H74F body operating out of Salisbury depot. We see it being prepared for the day and then running on a number of services in and around Salisbury.

Our out of town services take us to Upavon, Pewsey, Stonehenge, Devizes, Ringwood and Bournemouth to name but a few! We then go back to the depot with 4334 for the final time.

From the darkness and rain of January we move to the warm August sunshine and blue skies of Poole where we make a very early visit to the depot to see series 3 VRs leaving the depot to take up their duties for the day. Our cameras then stay for a busy summer Saturday afternoon where almost every double decker seems to be a VR!

This is our third video programme covering the Bristol VRTs of Wilts & Dorset. We have entitled it “Riding the Series III”, as it concentrates on the series III VRs during a number of events in 2002/3.

We start on October 26th 2002 in Salisbury bus station at the start of a special VR Running Day organised by Wilts & Dorset. We take a number of rides on different VRs to various places such as Tidworth, Amesbury, Andover and Devizes to name but a few! There are scenes in the busy Salisbury bus station, and a visit to the bus wash at the depot. The day concludes with a VR running an “X3” duty to Bournemouth via Ringwood - plenty of night time atmosphere.

There is a visit to Bournemouth and Poole in September 2003 to catch up with the action, and then later on September 14th, a brief visit to the Warminster Running Day to see some VRs there.

On October 12th 2003 we took out Damory liveried 5069 (GEL 685V) for the day to film her in familiar surroundings. Starting in Poole bus depot on a sunny autumn day we visit Sandbanks, Poole, Bournemouth, picturesque Christchurch and the New Forest, before returning to Poole via Ringwood.

A must for you if you are a Bristol fan! All the sounds are captured in glorious stereo, the scenery is breathtaking, the vehicles a classic in their own lifetime!
