A Tribute to Cunard's QE2

A Tribute to Cunard's QE2

Ref: KF237D

Price:£9.95

Quantity:

Following 39 years of continuous service and a recent uncertain history during lay-up in Dubai, we delve into the history of Cunard’s most famous liner.

Interviews with Commodore Ron Warwick and the team from ‘QE2 London’ hoping to bring the liner back to the UK.

Our 60-minute programme is a tribute to this wonderful ship which became part of life for so many crew and passengers alike. The liner was a familiar part of Southampton’s port as she docked on a regular basis to disembark passengers before embarking more in the afternoon for the next voyage.

We look at the ship as she docks and begins the process of re-loading stores and passengers. We go on board after her major refit in the early 2000s and discover the emotional splendours as the vessel departs from Southampton on her final normal departure for New York. We witness the great, but sad, occasion of QE2's last day in Southampton and all the tributes paid during the day.

We finish with a look at Cunard’s new liners, especially Queen Mary 2 on her inauguration day in 2004. See the interiors and the wonderful send off in the evening on her maiden voyage. A famous gathering of QE2, Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria in Southampton during 2008 ends our special programme.

SS Great Britain Come Home

SS Great Britain Come Home

Ref: KF277D

Price:£14.95

Quantity:

Exactly 127 years after its launch, the SS Great Britain returns home to her birthplace in Bristol.

This film is narrated by Magnus Magnusson and was originally shown on the BBC in 1970.

In 1970, the world’s first propeller-driven, ocean-going iron ship was salvaged from the icy waters around Port Stanley in the Falkland Islands in an operation made possible by the property tycoon and philanthropist Sir Jack Hayward.

Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s ship almost ended her days as a rusting hulk but was rescued from decay by a dedicated team of salvage experts who oversaw the process of preparing the ship and sailing her back across the Atlantic to her homeport of Bristol.

The most difficult part of the voyage was the journey along the River Avon into the heart of the city’s docks, where the infamous Horseshoe Bend was successfully negotiated. Had the tugs made the slightest error of judgement, we could now be visiting the SS Great Britain as an out-of-town attraction!

The Lost Film of the Titanic

A documentary featuring original 1912 film footage of the Titanic.

This film footage was found in a garden shed in England by a 90 year old lady where it had been lying for 86 years.

This dvd shows the only movie film footage from 1912 ever taken of the Titanic and the only film footage of the aftermath of this maritime tragedy. Never before has so much footage been put on a dvd.

The film includes shots of the Titanic at Belfast before leaving to start the fateful maiden voyage; the ice flows where she hit the berg; the rescue ship Carpathia returning with survivors; women from New York bringing clothing to the docks to comfort survivors; a 1937 radio interview with Charles Herbert Lightoller, the most senior officer to survive and much, much more.

We talk to the woman who found the astonishing film footage and also to Millvina Dean, one of only two survivors still alive in Britain (at the time of the filming) who continues to tell her story of the tragedy.

The Story of RMS Queen Mary

The Story of RMS Queen Mary

Ref: KF236D

Price:£14.95

Quantity:

The Queen Mary was one of those famous icons of the 20th century. The world’s most famous ocean liner spent 31 years crossing the North Atlantic and was requistioned for the duration of World War Two to transport troops all over the world. The liner has always carried great affection with those who travelled on her or who worked on her as officers or crew.

Today, RMS Queen Mary is preserved for us all to see and admire. Her berth in Long Beach, California right opposite the city shores, shows off her stunning outline to everyone who visits.

This is the story of the Queen Mary’s construction on the Clyde in Scotland and her maiden voyage in 1936 when she ‘lifted the cloud’ on the great depression years by embarking on a quite remarkable career at sea.

This DVD is full of archive film from the 1930s, of her wartime period and of the Mary at sea on the North Atlantic in the 1950s and 60s.

We hear from crew and passengers who travelled on board the liner and listen to reunions of former crew members.

Altogether, the story of the world’s most famous ocean liner, the Queen Mary.
