The Bristol VR on home ground may no longer mean a City Line example battling for supremacy on congested city streets. Instead the VR can be found feeling the wind rushing through its vents as it served the rural communities in northern Somerset.

Between the fields and hedgerows, past dry stone walls and picturesque cottages, along narrow lanes and up steep Mendip hills, VRs that run on once-a-week services 683 and 791 by Abus of Bristol take them through this lush scenery to Wells and Weston-super-Mare. Names like Blagdon, Priddy, West Harptree and Temple Cloud are among the points served. Additionally the VRs tackle the narrow streets in the former mining communities of Radstock and Paulton.

Both the 683 and 791 have the same regular driver, well know Bristol fan Allan Macfarlane, who is keen to share this marvellous countryside with yout, through this video.

Not to overlook the urban days of the VR, we include some of Alan's footage taken not that long ago within Bristol, Bath and Weston, of City Line and Badgerline buses together with some of the many small operators who chose the VR, not just for schools work, but on competing services.
