In this programme, some of North Yorkshire's long lost branch lines are viewed with the main feature being a ride on the daily pickup goods train from Malton to Whitby on a glorious winters day. We begin by following a Class J27 freight locomotive from Malton to Kirkbymoorside via Gilling and a look at the line from Pilmoor to Gilling on the East Coast Main Line is shown, plus a B1 Class Loco on a special passenger train at Coxwold. Joining the pickup goods once more at Malton, on this occasion hauked by a Class B1 locomotive, we travel on a glorious winter's day to Whitby, over what is now the North Yorks Moors Railway. The final part of the video features a ride on a DMU stopping train from Whitby to Scarborough down the much-missed coast line through Robin Hoods bay. A look at passenger and freight operations in Scarborough conludes the programme. Filmed between 1962 and 1966.

Hellifield Station and Junction, 36 miles from Leeds on the Midland Route North to Carlisle, was still a very busy place in the 1950's. Anglo-Scottish expresses used the Settle & Carlisle route. Boat trains ran to and from Heysham and passenger services departed to and terminated from Carlisle, Skipton and Blackburn. We depart from Skipton behind a Holbeck Jubilee travelling to Hellifield, pausing to look at traffic at Gargrave and Bell Busk stations. Both passenger and freight trains were numerous and varied as was the Motive Power. Pickups, beer trains, excursions, relief trains, Army Specials, block coal trains and Freightliners all feature in this video. From A3, Duchesses and Britannias to lowly 2P 4-4-0 passenger engines, ex-Midland 4F 0-6-0's to BR Standard 9F 2-10-0's and Class 4 Tank Locos there was always something different to be seen. Class 45 Peaks, 25's, 40's and 50's are seen together with some of the 75 daily passenger workings and numerous movements to and from the shed combine to make this a programme of non-stop action. Filmed and recorded between 1959 and 1968. All colour, correct sound.

Market Weighton, East Yorkshire is a collection of memories in an area bounded by York, Bridlington, Driffield and Beverley. The crossing point of two railway lines, the Selby to Driffield and the York to Hull, the main freight from Market Weighton was agricultural, with some scrap metal products. Although all York's platforms were still very busy, Dr. Beeching's cuts had begun to bite, as we watch the closure of the lines, lifting of the tracks and demolition of the stations. However the coast line to Bridlington was and is still very busy and we also look at Beverley Station's famed gardens and watch traffic at North Bar. THe local pickup goods train is seen in its heyday, with the closure notices and the last day's wreath bringing the prgramme to a close. Locos seen include Class 5s, Jubilees, K1s, Ivatt 2-6-0s, Class 25s, 40s and 47s, together with various classes of diesel multiple units. Filmed between 1960 and 1968.

The most famous gradient in England - over 2 miles at 1 in 37.5 - and lying between Birmingham and Gloucester, it posed major operating difficulties during the steam era when banking of northbound trains was required. The programme begins at Stourbridge with a steam-hauled 'Carpet Special' in the station, plus views of the climb from the Town Goods Yard to the junction; followed by scenes at Kidderminster, with gravity-shunting in the extensive yards. At Worcester, the practice of combining the Hereford and Worcester portions of Paddington expresses is seen and at Ashchurch Junction main line expresses speed through as the Tewkesbury Branch train engine, a Midland Railway 3F, shunts its solitary coach. The Lickey Incline poses few challenges to modern diesel traction, but in this programme - filmed between 1960 and 1966 - the most modern locomotives seen are British Railways Type 3 and 4 diesel designs! However, the banking of all but the lightest of trains is why the Lickey Incline was fascinating and a range of steam classes, from the humble Jinty to the mighty 9F, are seen carrying out this arduous work.
